I am writing in support of the proposed Derby/ Nottingham LEP. I come from the perspective of
being both an Entrepreneur and also a mentor and coach to Mid Market and high growth companies.
I fervently believe that in order to have a strong and dynamic economy we need to support those sectors
of the market who will generate growth, jobs and wealth for the region and that they are best served by a
joined up strategy at a local level that combines the very best in public and private sector support.
At High Growth Coaching we have a strong track record of building revenues and profitability for mid Market
and start up companies across Derby and Nottingham.
Imagine the impact to the economy and the success of businesses if they were all to benefit from
Mentoring, Coaching and the optimal business growth strategies.
EMDA have led the way through the Coaching for High Growth programme and we would advocate
that LEP's pick up the philosophy of well targeted and delivered business support that achieves a thriving
and dynamic enterprise culture.
The East Midlands needs fast growth companies, a strong enterprise culture and business leaders with
entrepreneurial talent. They are vital to our economy. They are more innovative than their competitors
and are therefore more likely to introduce new processes, products and services.
And they also generate more new jobs. In fact, they are responsible for a third of both net job creation
and economic growth.
Fast growers often serve as models of successful entrepreneurship. They inspire others to set
up businesses of their own. By competing with established players, they help to keep the whole
East Midlands economy up to date and on the ball.
It is clear that to foster a strong enterprise culture not only does there need to be a strong and joined
up strategy within the LEP, but also there needs to be a scrapping of conflicting regulations, a reduction
in the administrative burden, and greater access to the right grants and business support.
The Derby/ Nottingham LEP has the opportunity to become a role model in the way that it sets down a
Benchmark of excellence in terms of driving prosperity and success in a unified way for the local economy.
It will take a great deal of hard work and strong leadership, and for all parts of the business community
to step up to the plate to achieve the common goal of a strong and dynamic economy.
